This unique area contains one the country's most important museums as well as the shrine of the patron saint of Catalonia. You'll visit the Royal Basilica, shrine to the Black Virgin of Montserrat, also known as la Moreneta, believed to be a Romanesque carving from the 12th century. Generations of the faithful have been making the pilgrimage here for more than a thousand years.
You will also learn all about the history of the great Benedictine Abbey and find out about life behind the monastery walls with a brief audio-visual presentation. On some days, the children's choir sings in the monastery at midday, and so you may be fortunate enough to catch one of their delightful performances.
The visit also includes a tasting of four of the typical liquors prepared by the monks themselves at the monastery. Neither should you miss a stroll around the mountain. The area is magnet for climbers due to its weird rock formations – Discover the magnificent scenery for yourself and admire the strange rock formations. There are plenty of trails suitable for all ages and abilities.
